BREAKING NEWS (of interest to anyone connected to Vassar College)

Dear Fellow Vassar Alum:

With great warmth but bittersweet feelings, President Fran Fergusson announced her departure as President of Vassar College, this morning, at the monthly meeting of campus administrators, to be effective as of July 1, 2006. As one would expect, there were "noticeable gasps from the audience" followed by "a long and warm standing ovation."

The Vassar Trustees were notified of her departure this past weekend, and have reportedly commenced a search for a replacement, with a plan to announce a successor by February 2006.
