It is official! The Democrats control the Senate!

happy dance - happy dance - happy dance - happy dance

Wednesday, November 08, 2006

I've always said that I developed strong character from two things. Being a Mets fan and being a Democrat. Because both experiences cause you to suffer loss after loss and through dealing with that adversity, you become a stronger person.

But 2006 seems to be an aberration. The Mets had a great year and, although they had a tough loss in the NLCS, their 97 wins and NL East title made the season a huge success. And last night, for the first time in forever, the Democrats had a hugely successful election!

I can only remember two other elections that I enjoyed as much. (Not counting my own personal election wins in junior high, high school and college.) That would be 1992 when Bill Clinton won the presidency for the first time and 1998 when Jesse Ventura was elected governor of Minnesota.

Last night the Dems not only won the House of Representatives... it appears that we won the Senate too! Wow. If I smoked, I'd light a cigar.

So Bush is officially a lame duck and the race for the 2008 presidency is on. Huzzah!

I don't blog much these days. But I'm blogging today to say...

LET'S GO METS!

C'mon guys. You can do it. I have faith. But whatever happens, I love you anyway.

Today I made my feature film debut. Kind of.

Around the corner from my apartment building, they were filming "Then She Found Me," a romantic comedy starring and directed by Helen Hunt. The scene that they were filming was Hunt and Colin Firth sitting on a bench outside of Yanni's - a restaurant that's a block from me. From what I hear, Matthew Broderick and Bette Midler are also supposed to be in this movie that will be released next year.

Anyway, they were shooting the scenes with Hunt and Firth and they had a bunch of extras walking back and forth. Two other local residents and I were standing in the background watching them. When they adjusted their cameras to get different angles, they realized that we were in the line of the shot. Rather than tell us to move, they asked if we could stand by the bus stop that was there and look like we were waiting for a bus, as part of the background. So we did that for about four takes. If it makes it into the film, I will surely be expecting compensation.

After they wrapped (that happened to be the last scene they were filming), Helen Hunt went into Yanni's and came out with a birthday cake filled with candles. She then presented it to Colin Firth, whose birthday it was today. Everyone there (me included) then sang Happy Birthday to him.

Now I have to sit down with my agent to find a follow up project.

Intently watching the Mets as they begin their comeback against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night. Best game of the season!
